The Youth Wind Orchestra of the music school in Krnov Czech Republic was founded in 1961 by Mr. Karel Dospiva, who worked with the orchestra until 2010. High demands of this great conductor and regular hard training led the orchestra early among the best ensembles of this type in the Czech Republic and abroad. This is evidenced, among other things, by permanent victories in the national competitions of the “youth wind music school orchestras” from 1971 until 1990 and many victories in abroad competitions (e.g. absolute winner of the concert and march competition in Neerpelt in Belgium in 1983, absolute winner of concert competition in Rostock in Germany in 1990, etc.). One of the last big competition successes of the orchestra is the participation in the international competition of big wind orchestras in Ostrava Czech Republic in June 2017 where orchestra won three great awards – the “golden zone with honor” which is the highest rating category, “absolute victory of the category” and the prize for “the best interpretation of the compulsory composition”.
During its existence orchestra successfully participated in many large festivals and competitions in the Czech Republic (Kmochův Kolín, FEDO Štětí, FIJO Cheb, international competitions of the big wind orchestras in Brno, Prague, Ostrava, etc.) and many times represented Czech Republic at abroad festivals and competitions (USA, China, Great Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Croatia, Austria, Germany, Poland, Slovakia). Among the most known performances of the orchestra we can included the concert in the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1991, the concert tour of the United States of America in 2008 and a very successful Asian tour in 2016-2017, when the orchestra greatly presented itself at the “2016 Beijing Festival International Band Festival” in October 2016, where its concert and march performances were such successful that orchestra was invited by Chinese organizers to China again shortly thereafter and in September 2017 orchestra successfully presented itself at the world-famous festival “2017 Shanghai Tourism Festival “.
The orchestra has currently about 60 members and still holds a high artistic level. Since 2011 is the artistic director and the main conductor of the orchestra former player of the orchestra and current teacher of the music school in Krnov Mr. Luděk Tlach. Under his leadership the orchestra recently has already celebrated the 56th anniversary of its founding.
